Zoom

A creative installation as part of the NGV’s Melbourne Now exhibition, designed to measure the city’s design values.

Commissioned by Studio Propeller, Zoom comprised an interactive wall of postcards which posed the question “How might we design our future city?”. Each postcard focused on a different issue and viewers were invited to take away the cards which most represented their views. By keeping count of how many of each card was taken, Melbourne Now sought to measure the city’s design values.

A simple metal and perspex structure filled the length of one wall, presenting itself as a play on light and colour with oblique angled mirror backplates which reflected the colour on the back of each postcard. On one side the viewer was presented with the issues posed on the front of the cards; on the other a simple graduating wall of colour shifted with the movement of the viewer.
