We are an award-winning practice with over 30 years of collective experience.
Established in 2008 by Mark Simpson and Damien Mulvihill, our Melbourne based studio creates buildings and spaces for the hospitality, retail, residential, commercial and institutional sectors.
Responding to each project and scale with careful consideration, our portfolio and project experience covers everything from strategic masterplanning to temporary installations.
We also offer Platform: a new strategy-led design service, which facilitates the creation of branded architectural environments.
Responsive, authentic and emotional, the environments we create are based upon rigorous frameworks and close facilitation. By distilling the essence of individual project requirements, DesignOffice strives to provide intelligent and creative solutions.
From origin to outcome, the studio is informed by a continual process of exploration and design refinement.
Our passion for exploring craft and detail, along with understanding material properties, provides an ongoing narrative throughout our work.
We listen, innovate, craft and refine.
14 years ago, Mark and Damien worked together as senior designers at London’s Universal Design Studio. DesignOffice was formed after rejoining in Melbourne.
Together with Universal Studio founders, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, Mark and Damien led projects for clients including Canteen, Liberty of London and British Red Cross.
Before returning to form DesignOffice, Mark and Damien worked as senior designers at Allies & Morrison Architects, Bligh Voller Nield and Carr Design Group. With a wide range of commercial clients, both Mark and Damien completed a diverse list of projects.
By establishing their own studio, a primary desire is to retain personal involvement with individual clients, in every project, at every stage.
