Coles Architectural Blueprint

DesignOffice worked with the Coles Group to create an architectural strategy to serve as a platform for a cohesive holistic approach to the Coles property portfolio.

More Information Less Information

The aim of the Coles Architectural Blueprint is to establish a considered and aligned approach which comprises recognisable common elements and materials, exhibiting a singular hand-writing for all stores, whilst still allowing for inclusion of local site specific elements.

The intended users of the Blueprint include the Coles Property team alongside the various consultants and specialists involved in realising their built projects. It is therefore structured in such a way to allow the user to be able to be able to extract relevant information; from a clear comprehension of the overall strategy to a detailed technical aspect. Rules and checklists are applied for each element, supplemented by diagrams and architectural perspectives illustrating the intended outcome.

The Manual divides the design elements into two segments:

A Kit of Architectural Parts: prescribed elements, taking a uniform approach across the property portfolio. Rules of use, materials and typical construction details are provided to ensure consistent execution and brand cohesion.

Site Responsive Design Elements: These aspects of the building allow scope for individual teams to respond to site conditions and utilise local materials and skills.

The principles of the manual are applied and adapted to the four primary Coles store typologies.
