A collaborative experiment in timber designed for a convivial crowd.
More Information Less InformationWorking with Space Furniture, Architecture Media, American Hardwood Export Council and Britton Timbers, DesignOffice created an ephemeral bar room in the basement of Space Furniture Richmond.
The Pop Down Bar was purpose-built to provide a one-off experience, immersing visitors in the materiality of timber, with stacked Kambia Ash at the entrance and screens of demountable American Ash. Backed by golden fabric, the interior bathed in a warm glow, an acrylic display system created for the Zoom installation at Melbourne Now formed a backdrop to showcase the Eat Drink Design Awards shortlist.
The bar also proved a small exercise in closed loop design: its stacked timber was returned to the timber yard, and demountable screens dismantled for future display purposes.
