The Commons Collins Street is a shared workspace across 8 levels of IM Pei’s iconic Collins Place in Melbourne.
More Information Less InformationThe Commons Collins Street occupies over 6,000sqm of floor space in the western tower of Melbourne’s iconic Collins Place. It includes a public cafe and bar, taking members, guests and patrons on a dynamic multi-level journey directly from the atrium to a connected suite of spaces for work and play.
The shared workspace connects directly to the main atrium of the building anchored by the primary double height volume overlooking the Great Space and Collins Street.
Shared amenity is focused on the lower levels with the cafe and bar supporting a suite of meeting spaces, open work benches, sunken conversation pit, restoration lounge and the member’s kitchen.
The Commons’ reception on Level 1 greets people on arrival forming a key node and softly secure line between public spaces and those accessible to members. Behind reception, a tiered landscape of new floor levels, stairways and structural openings in the existing slabs creates a visual connection through to the daylight on Level 3. From here, members use the adjacent lifts to connect with the 4 floors of shared offices above.
The reception, café and bar are set against the backdrop of the original granite walls and picture windows overlooking the Great Space beyond. A human-scaled layer is introduced through smoked oak counters, timber parquet flooring and a carefully considered suite of furniture and joinery.
