Situated in Rushcutters Bay, Sydney, Marta’s fresh ambience reflects the unpretentious generosity of Roman food culture.
The brief required an inventive reimagining of the site’s existing restaurant, keeping main functional services in tact. The response includes the original bar as a core spatial element, introducing additional covers and a new bench top in zinc. This sits against a layered palette of concrete, forest green Italian marble and oak, accented by black chairs and fixtures, and rich olive green. A long, new communal table extracts maximum use of floor space, while retaining easy flow.
The introduction of a new street-facing counter allows Marta to extend its convivial trattoria atmosphere beyond the restaurant, inviting casual interaction and activating public space.
