Transforming an inner city warehouse restaurant into a new collaborative home for the innovative creative practice.
More Information Less InformationSix years after we designed their Carlton studio, our friends at Round asked us to work with them again as they moved their creative practice into the former Transformer restaurant in the heart of Fitzroy.
Retaining the location of a central kitchen as the studio heart, the design response was tailored specifically to the rhythms of the Round team, their work styles and engagement with collaborators and clients.
The approach focused on a process of editing and re-use, looking to restore the clarity of the original volume and simplify the palette and flow to suit the needs of creative practice.
The central commercial kitchen was re-configured to provide a more domestic scale focus, incorporating meeting spaces and a new staircase to the mezzanine.
Crisp aluminium panels wrap this central form, offset by a rich leathery brown and lined in oak, providing a warm and tactile focus within the considered palette of soft neutral notes.
