Mud Australia, Fitzroy

Mud Australia commissioned DesignOffice to create their Melbourne showroom, showcasing the entire range of their hand-made porcelain alongside the iconic Vitsoe shelving system.

Located in Fitzroy, the Gertrude Street showroom is arranged as a sequence of three rooms, terminating with a small external courtyard at the rear.

The arrangement is designed in response to the client’s brief for a space that would use the versatility of the Vitsoe system to show their full range of porcelain whilst providing a warm and welcoming environment for customers and staff.  Distinguishing the sections of the store in this way called for a series of considered colour studies. Starting with Mud’s extensive 21 colour ceramic palette and the standard Vitsoe finishes – off-white, black, silver and beech veneer, various shades and tones of flat matt paint from nearby Porters Paints were tested in the store.

The front room, with high ceilings and large windows, is painted in a soft warm grey and showcases the majority of the Mud collection displayed on Vitsoe shelving. At the centre of this room sits a suite of solid oak Home Tables designed by London’s BarberOsgerby.
